OUR CAUSES

The causes we target to maximize our impact are called our area of focus

Promotion of new Rotary Peace Center opening at Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda.

Promoting Peace

We train adults and young leaders to prevent and mediate conflict and help refugees who have fled dangerous areas.

Health workers and volunteers participate in a door-to-door polio immunization campaign in Kaduna, Nigeria. 13 April 2019. Rotary International is working closely with the government of Nigeria and its GPEI partners to intensify polio-eradication efforts there by addressing cultural barriers, fostering community education, and increasing surveillance in a mobile population.

Fighting Disease

We are resolved to rid the world of polio forever. We also educate and equip communities to stop other diseases and expand access to health care.

At Bopese, Evelyn Doe fetches water from the hand pump water borehole system donated to the community through the Rotary International-USAID Partnership projects. Bopese, Ghana. 25 June 2019. Rotarians from 35 clubs across the country are partnering with USAID and national and local agencies of the government of Ghana in a large-scale $4 million program in water, sanitation and hygiene serving 75,000 people. By working together, both partners leverage each other strengths for more sustainable impact in improving access to clean water and sanitation services, fostering the adoption of hygiene behavior, strengthen community management systems, and influencing decision makers for prioritized financing of local water and sanitation services.

Providing Clean Water

We help bring sustainable clean water, sanitation, and hygiene to more people every day. We don’t just build wells and walk away.

Jumai Alhassan, a resident of the Madinatu camp for Internally Displaced Persons, uses water from a solar-powered borehole water supply system funded by Rotary. Clean, free water allows her to bathe her children and care for her family, who experienced water scarcity in the camp before the system was installed. Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria. 27 April 2019.

Saving Mothers & Children

We expand access to quality medical care, sanitation, education and economic opportunities so mothers and their children can live and grow stronger.

Patience Ado-Asquoah, health and hygiene teacher, instructs her classroom on personal hygiene practices at the Kade Presbyterian School, Kade, Ghana. 25 June 2019. Rotarians from 35 clubs across the country are partnering with USAID and national and local agencies of the government of Ghana in a large-scale $4 million program in water, sanitation and hygiene serving 75,000 people.
