HISTORY

History of Rotary Club of Accra-Airport Enclave

The idea of chartering this club sponsored by the Rotary Club of Accra-Airport began in the early part of 2022 when Past District Governor Jeffrey Afful Vice Chair of the Membership Ectension
Committee, expressed the need for a Club to he chartered with members within the Airport City
and its environs.

In July 2022, Immediate Past President CC Bruce Jnr, the then President of the club and the entire club membership accepted the challenge and assented for us to charter this club.

With the immense support from Past District Governors Sam Worentetu and Jeffrey Afful; Chair and Vice chair of the Ghana membership extension committee respectively, Immediate Past President CC Bruce Jnr, Past Assistant Governor Theresa Osei Tutu, Past Assistant Governor Afua Ababio and President Elect Alice Otoo-Ocran hit the ground running and began the daunting journey ahead.

It started with an initial dinner meeting on 2nd September 2022 with about 10 aspiring members at the Ibis Hotel, and began the arduous task of recruiting additional members. Letters were sent to the corporate institutions in the Airport City locality, expressing the intention to sponsor sponsor new club and to introduce Rotary to their executives and staff. It was one of such letters that was delivered to a gentleman in an office at No 1 Airport Square. This gentleman happened to be Past President Carlis Arko of the Rotary Club of Labone. So out of the blue , he called asking if we had a meeting place for this new club under formation and immediately offers us space in North Airport Square for free, a clear example of the beauty of Rotary membership and the benefits we derive from it without even asking.

We held meetings in this office space in No 1 Airport Square for free, reform then until August 2023, and we’re ready to move to our permanent meeting place which happens to he Lancaster Hotel.
We ended up having 40 Charter Members and an additional 12 aspiring Rotarians who were
inducted in May 2024 making the total membership to 52.
